The BBL 15 Redemption (Jan 2026)
Marcus Stoinis entered 2026 as the second-highest run-scorer in Melbourne Stars’ history. His current BBL season has been one of his finest:
-
The “3000 Run” Club: On December 18, 2025, Stoinis became only the fourth player to reach 3,000 runs in Big Bash history, achieving the feat against the Hurricanes.
-
Explosive Form: Before his minor injury, he amassed 209 runs in 6 innings at an average of 69.66 and a strike rate of 133.12.
-
Bowling Resurgence: He has matched his best-ever wicket tally in a BBL season with 14 wickets in 9 matches at an elite average of 15.57.
International Status: Focus on T20 World Cup 2026
Following his shocking retirement from ODI cricket on February 6, 2025 (just before the Champions Trophy), Stoinis has focused exclusively on the T20 format. He is a primary name in Australia’s provisional squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup (scheduled for Feb/March 2026), where he is expected to serve as the senior all-rounder alongside Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh.
IPL 2026: The PBKS Powerhouse
Returning to Punjab Kings (his former home) in 2025, Stoinis instantly became the team’s tactical anchor.
-
The “Heavy Metal” Finisher: For the 2026 season, PBKS has retained him as their premier overseas all-rounder. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting, Stoinis is expected to partner with Cooper Connolly and Shashank Singh to form the league’s most dangerous finishing unit.
