A master of flight and deception, Harsh Dubey (born July 23, 2002) has rapidly transformed from a domestic workhorse into a record-breaking national sensation. The Pune-born left-arm orthodox spinner achieved immortality in Indian cricket by rewriting the history books of the Ranji Trophy, leading Vidarbha to the pinnacle of domestic glory.
As of January 20, 2026, Harsh Dubey is the man of the hour. Just two days ago, on January 18, 2026, he played a pivotal role as Vidarbha clinched the 2025/26 Vijay Hazare Trophy title, defeating Saurashtra in the final. Following his breakthrough IPL debut in 2025, he enters the IPL 2026 season as one of the most exciting young spinners in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad.
Harsh Dubey: Player Profile & Historic Milestones
The 69-Wicket Ranji Revolution
Harsh Dubey’s 2024/25 season is widely considered the greatest single-season performance by a bowler in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
-
The Record: He shattered the 6-year-old record held by Ashutosh Aman by claiming 69 wickets in a single edition.
-
The Impact: His relentless accuracy and seven five-wicket hauls were the driving force behind Vidarbha’s third Ranji title.
-
Versatility: Beyond his bowling, Dubey proved his “all-rounder” credentials by racking up 472 runs, including five gritty half-centuries, making him only the fourth player in history to achieve the 450-run/50-wicket double in a Ranji season.
IPL 2025: The Chain of Replacements
Harsh Dubey’s entry into the IPL was a story of serendipity. The Sunrisers Hyderabad initially lost Adam Zampa to injury, replacing him with the young batter Smaran Ravichandran. When Smaran was also sidelined by an injury in May 2025, SRH secured Dubey for ₹30 Lakh. He made his debut against Lucknow Super Giants on May 19, 2025, claiming his first IPL wicket with a classic piece of flighted spin.
Current Status (January 2026)
Dubey is entering the 2026 IPL season in peak physical and mental condition. After his historic Ranji run, he was a standout performer for India A in the 2025 Asia Cup Emerging Stars tournament. For the 2026 season, SRH has retained Dubey, viewing him as the perfect long-term successor to provide domestic spin variety alongside overseas stars.
