The “Yorker King” of Indian cricket, Thangarasu Natarajan (born April 4, 1991), remains one of the most respected left-arm pacers in the T20 circuit. Known for his pinpoint accuracy at the death and a humble journey from Salem, Tamil Nadu, to the international stage, Natarajan’s career has been a testament to resilience and elite skill.
As of January 20, 2026, Natarajan is back to full fitness. After an injury-interrupted 2025 season, he has been retained by the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the IPL 2026 season. Fresh from launching a new cricket academy in Tiruchengode today, he enters the new season as a primary weapon in the Capitals’ pace battery.
T. Natarajan: Career Profile & 2026 Outlook
The Rise of the Yorker Specialist
Natarajan first gained national prominence during his stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). His breakout 2020 season led to a historic international debut in all three formats during India’s tour of Australia in 2020/21. His 2024 campaign was his statistical peak, where he claimed 19 wickets to propel SRH into the finals, showcasing why he is regarded as one of the best death-overs bowlers in the world.
2025: A Year of Recovery
The 2025 season was a testing time for the pacer. After being signed by Delhi Capitals for a staggering ₹10.75 Crore, he was sidelined by a rare collarbone injury sustained during training. This limited him to just one appearance for DC last season. However, he made a successful comeback in the 2025 TNPL, leading the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans’ attack and proving his match fitness by taking 9 wickets at an economy of 6.35.
IPL 2026: Retention and Responsibility
Despite the limited game time in 2025, Delhi Capitals have officially retained Natarajan for the 2026 season. Under the leadership of Axar Patel and coach Hemang Badani, “Nattu” is expected to lead the domestic pace unit alongside Mukesh Kumar, providing the left-arm variety needed to complement overseas stars like Mitchell Starc.
